Polyoxymethylene, commonly referred to as acetal. It is a formaldehyde-based, semi-crystalline engineered thermoplastic which serves as an alternative for metals offering high mechanical strength and rigidity as well as good sliding characteristics and outstanding wear resistance. Acetal comes in two different chemical compositions: Copolymer, Acetal – C and homopolymer, Acetal – H. Homopolymers also have higher crystallinity levels and better short-term mechanical properties (stiffness, tensile strength, impact resistance and initial creep resistance). Copolymer grades have better oxidation resistance and exhibit better resistance to creep.
