Chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) refers to a group of chemical substances that are chlorinated elastomers. They are formed via the reaction of polyethylene with chlorine and suphur dioxide. They are often used as corrosion prevention coatings on metallic substrate surfaces. Its applications include wire, cable sheathing as well as roofing. Other uses include the manufacture of tubes, tank linings, protective layers which are acid and ozone resistant as well as gaskets, consumer products which include shoe soles and garden hoses.
